Individuals who are not running any business in the USA do not need to get EIN because is of no use. However, If you offer services that target the USA market or use platforms (Company) like Medium, Amazon, etc to offer your services, you will be required to obtain an EIN.

This is because these Platforms are required to pay a withholding tax to the USA IRS from the income you make through their platform. In other, for these platforms to submit that withholding tax to IRS, they will require to quote your EIN, which is why you need to get one.

The platform may also get into trouble with IRS, if they don't fill those withholding taxes.
