How I learned to overcome fear as a little boy, a little know secret by a few people

If you have ever lived in a house that has Crickets, then you can easily understand how annoying and sometimes frightening the sounds this little night watchers make.

I first experienced this sounds when I traveled to one of the villages in Nigeria with my uncle at the age of 12.

One of the most beautiful things about villages in Nigeria is that you are literally surrounded by nature and it sounds. You do not need a clock alarm to wake up in the morning as the crowing Rooster will handle that for you. In the afternoon, the birds will entertain you with their whistling, while the frogs will keep you awake at night with their ever reechoing melody.

In the midst of this sound, there was this one that kept coming from inside the house and it was very frightening to me, mostly because I have to stay alone in the house up until 7:30 pm before my uncle returns from his business.

After the second day of staying at the village, I couldn’t bear the fear anymore, so I asked my uncle what was always making noise at night inside the house. My Uncle explained to me that the sound was made by a tiny little insect called Cricket. But I could not imagine how this Crickets looked like since I haven’t seen one…
